How to sign up for an apartment - two steps

Step 1 - sign up on the waiting list
Step 2 - when available, apply for an apartment in the right location for you.

You sign up and apply on "mínar síður" (My pages) on our webside.

Fill out the application as accurately as possible. Applications can be refused if inadequate or if the information provided is inaccurate. By signing up on the waiting list you allow Bjarg íbúðafélag to verify all the information provided by sending an inquiry to the Directorate of Internal Revenue (rsk.is), regarding income and assets, to Registers Iceland (skra.is) regarding family status and to the listed Union regarding membership.

1. First step: Signing up on the waiting list

The applicant signs up on Bjarg’s waiting list . Waiting list entries are generally sorted in the order in which they arrive and become active when the confirmation fee is paid. The exception is that those who register before July 31st, 2018 will be given a random number and allocations given by lot.

2. Second step, applying for an apartment type in a specific area

Each time apartments are available for application, Bjarg Housing Foundation sends e-mail to everyone on the waiting list with further information.

If an applicant is interested in a particular location, he/she must submit an application.

The applicant with the lowest number on the waiting list and who fulfills all the conditions for allocation, taking priority criteria into account, cf. Article 4 of the allocation rules, will be offered an apartment.

You must pay to be on a waiting list, according to Bjarg´s price list (now 1,500 ISK per year). As long as you are on the waiting list, you must pay a yearly maintenance fee. If you don’t pay, you will be removed from the list.

Note that only families with children can apply for family apartments (3, 4 and 5 bedroom apartments).

Applying is for a particular apartment type/apartment size in a particular house is not possible.

There can be no more than 2 persons per room in each apartment (exceptions can be made in case of very young children).
